Why a book is like a duvet

My mind might be unravelling slightly, as I have been sitting in essentially the same spot for hours drinking coffee and Diet Coke, but I am working on the principle that if I sit and stare at the edits for long enough, they will magically complete themselves.

I took a short break from work to wrestle a duvet back into its cover. This took a really long time. The duvet seemed to have a mind of its own, like an enormous fluffy white orangutan with about eight extra legs and a bad attitude, and the duvet cover appeared to shrink to the size of a postage stamp. I had to practically climb inside the cover to get it on. And then I got tangled up in it and fell over. And then the duvet and I had a protracted tussle. The duvet won.

Anyway, that is pretty much what the editing process feels like at the moment.
